A skilled writer, broadcaster, designer and lecturer, Jackie makes connections across different themes, uniting the two paths of her career: fashion-textiles, and gardens-environment. She draws on considerable academic and professional experience.

Jackie holds an MA in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute, a BA in French and Italian from Exeter University, and Diplomas in Management Studies and Garden Design. She has been an Attingham Scholar on the history of the English Country House, and also studied historic techniques of weaving at the Musée Historique des Tissus, Lyon.

Jackie’s publications include several books, articles, catalogue essays, reviews and education guides. Topics range from contemporary fashion and style, gardens and interiors, to the environmental impacts of design, experimental patterns, collecting, recycling and architectural reclamation. Her writing is thoughtful, with pace – and very accessible. She combines deep scholarship with a clear and concise use of words, tempered by a sense of humour and enthusiasm for every topic she engages with.

With her writing, Jackie’s professional portfolio includes international experience in curating exhibitions, conferences and workshops, broadcasting on design, and lecturing in art and design schools and galleries. She has been Course Director of the MA in Design for the Environment at Chelsea College of Art & Design. She was a member of the interdisciplinary team that developed an interactive exhibit on the lifecycle of a T-shirt, for the Challenge of Materials Gallery, Science Museum, London - which was internationally acclaimed and awarded.

Jackie is a fluent French speaker, and draws inspiration from her travels through France, from the volcanic stone of Auvergne to ornate Parisian metalwork and the silks of Lyon.

In London, she is Vice Chair of Governors at Hawley Primary School in the heart of Camden Town. Jackie is a Trustee of HART (Hawley Arts Trust) and a former trustee of SPACE artists’ studios.
